Home Inspection Cameras — Wall, Duct & Crawlspace Cameras | Ralcam
Look inside the wall before you open it. Ralcam home inspection cameras reach into wall cavities, attics, crawlspaces, HVAC ducts, and conduit runs — so you find out what is back there without cutting drywall first.

Home inspection is mostly a question of access. The problem is nearly always somewhere you cannot get your head, and the cost of looking — cutting an access hole, pulling a fixture, entering a crawlspace — is high enough that people guess instead. A camera to look inside walls removes that trade-off: a small probe on a cable goes through an opening you already have, or one you can cover afterwards.
How to See Inside a Wall Without Cutting Drywall
- Use an opening that already exists. An outlet or switch box, a heating register, a recessed light, or the gap behind a removed baseboard. Switch the circuit off at the breaker before you remove any cover plate.
- Or drill one small hole where it will not show. A hole just larger than the probe, placed behind a baseboard, inside a closet, or where a picture will hang, is easy to patch.
- Feed the probe in and steer. An articulating tip turns up and down the cavity so you can follow a pipe or cable instead of seeing only the stud in front of you.
- Record what you find. A photo of the leak, the wire run, or the damage goes straight into the repair quote or the insurance claim.
For the specific job of tracing cables, see how to find hidden electrical wires behind walls.
Where to Look and What to Use
| Space | Typical way in | What you are looking for | Cable |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wall cavity | Outlet box or small drilled hole | Leaks, mold, wiring and pipe routes, pests | 1 m flexible or semi-rigid |
| Ceiling and attic | Light fixture opening, attic hatch | Roof leaks, insulation gaps, rodent damage | 1–2 m |
| Crawlspace | Vent or access panel | Standing water, rot, sagging joists, pests | 2–3 m semi-rigid |
| HVAC duct and dryer vent | Register or vent hood | Disconnected runs, debris, lint buildup | 2–3 m flexible |
| Under sinks and behind appliances | Cabinet gap, toe kick | Slow leaks, lost items, damaged lines | 1 m |
Flexible cable follows ducts and drops down a wall cavity; semi-rigid cable holds its shape so you can push it across a crawlspace or up into an attic space. If you are checking drains and pipes specifically, see plumbing borescopes.
Choosing a Wall Inspection Camera
Built-in screen models from 3.5" to 5" are the practical choice for professional inspectors — you are often on your back in a crawlspace or up a ladder, and a standalone unit with TF card recording keeps both hands on the job and your phone out of the dust. Phone-connected probes plug into an iPhone or Android by cable and cost less, which suits homeowners and occasional use.
Steering and light
A camera that only looks straight ahead shows you the back of the drywall. An articulating tip lets you look up and down the cavity once the probe is inside, and 4-way models add left and right for tracing a run around framing. Adjustable LEDs light a dark cavity; an 8.5 mm head carries more light for bigger spaces such as ducts and crawlspaces.
Specs
Probes from 5.5 mm to 8.5 mm on 1 m to 3 m cables, IP67 waterproof on the probe and cable, adjustable LED illumination, and articulating tips that steer around framing and duct bends.
What Home Inspectors and DIYers Find
Water staining and mold behind wet walls, insulation gaps and rodent damage in cavities, blocked or disconnected HVAC ducts, lint in dryer vents, wiring and pipe runs before drilling, and pest activity in soffits and crawlspaces. The camera does not replace a moisture meter or a licensed electrician, but it tells you whether you need one — and exactly where to cut if you do.
FAQ
Can I inspect walls, HVAC ducts, chimneys and crawlspaces?
Yes — a borescope lets you see inside wall cavities, ductwork, chimneys and crawlspaces through a small access hole, so you can check for wiring, leaks, mold or pests without opening up the structure. Choose a flexible cable to follow existing runs.
What cable length do I need to reach inside walls or ducts?
1m handles most wall-cavity and behind-appliance checks; choose 2m–3m for longer duct runs and chimneys. A flexible cable follows bends and gravity, which suits ducts and voids better than a rigid tube.
Which model is best for home inspection?
A model with a built-in screen and a flexible or semi-rigid cable is easiest for home use — you don't need your phone free while working overhead. Add articulation if you need to look sideways inside a cavity rather than straight ahead.
