2-Way Articulating Borescope Series – Flexible and Accurate

Two-way steering handles most of the job. Ralcam's 2-way articulating borescopes bend the camera tip through 210° up and down — enough to clear a bend, angle onto a cylinder wall, or turn into a branch line.

When 2-Way Articulation Is Enough

Two-way is the most widely used borescope design for a reason. A single lever or wheel controls the tip, so you steer with one hand while you push with the other. For automotive engine checks, drain and pipe runs, and HVAC service, that is almost always the control you actually need — and it costs considerably less than a 4-way joystick platform.

Sizing

Camera diameters run 5.5 mm, 6.2 mm, and 8.5 mm across this series, on cables from 1 m to 3 m in flexible, semi-rigid, and rigid form. Semi-rigid is the default recommendation: it holds the curve you set, which is what keeps the tip pointed at the cylinder wall instead of sagging into the bore.

Screen or phone

Models here come both ways — built-in screens from 3.5" to 5" for standalone work, or USB probes that turn an iPhone or Android into the display for a lighter kit.

When to step up

If you need to look back along a surface, sweep a combustion chamber methodically, or navigate a compound bend, the tip has to move left and right too — that is 4-way articulation.

All probes are IP67 rated with adjustable LED illumination for oily, wet, and dusty work.

Choosing the Right Borescope

What is 2-way articulation and what can I inspect with it?

2-way articulation bends the camera tip in one plane (typically up and down); you rotate the whole probe to reach any side. That's enough to sweep most cylinder walls, valves, welds and pipe interiors. A probe lock holds your angle for a steady, sharp shot.

Is 2-way enough, or should I step up to 4-way?

For most automotive, plumbing and general inspection, 2-way covers it — steer in one plane and rotate the probe to reach any angle. Choose 4-way (joystick) only for frequent tight, multi-bend paths such as turbine internals, where rotating the whole probe is impractical.

Which 2-way model and probe size should I pick?

6.2mm is the all-round standard (H406B, N5, R406S, N308S); go 8.5mm for a brighter, wider view where the opening allows, or 3.9–5.5mm for narrow bores. Match cable length — 1m for general work, 2–3m for deep reach — and choose semi-rigid cable for engine bays.

FAQ

What is a borescope and what is it used for?

A borescope is an inspection camera designed to access hard-to-reach areas. It is widely used for automotive diagnostics, pipe inspection, HVAC maintenance, and industrial applications.

How do I choose the right borescope?

Choosing the right borescope depends on your needs. Key factors include probe diameter, cable length, articulation (2-way or 4-way), and whether you need a standalone screen or smartphone connection.

What industries are your inspection cameras suitable for?

Our borescopes are used across multiple industries, including:

  • Automotive repair
  • Plumbing and drainage
  • HVAC inspection
  • Construction and maintenance
  • Industrial equipment inspection
How long does the battery last?

Battery life depends on the model, but most standalone borescopes provide 3–5 hours of continuous use on a full charge.

Which borescope is best for beginners?

For beginners, we recommend starting with a model that has a built-in screen and simple controls. These models do not require additional setup and are easier to operate.
